Named for
tigre
(jaguars) that once roamed this area 28km north
of Buenos Aires, Tigre is one of the world’s largest deltas. A
massive canal flows into the Rio de la Plata that separates
Argentina and Uruguay. Man-made waterways meander around a
multitude of relaxing resort islands called “countries” (named
after American country clubs) that are populated with bucolic
woods, grasslands, spas, and gated communities. Water taxis
whisk locals and travelers looking to get away from it all to the
island retreats for day trips and longer sojourns.
