Central Canal is part of a 250-acre urban green space in
White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis. Canal
Walk, a 5km promenade that stretches north along White
River State Park to 11th Street, is popular with locals and
tourists alike. Those who opt to walk along the canal, rather
than take to the water in rented pedal boats, are afforded the
chance to stop at attractions like the Congressional Medal of
Honor Memorial, the 9/11 Memorial, large-scale mastodon
sculptures outside the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians
and Western Art, and 10 murals that were installed in honor
of Super Bowl 2012, which was hosted in Indy. In the
summer, the canal is packed with gondolas, offering visitors
an additional vantage point.
