Nestled in the Canadian Rockies, Glacier Skywalk is a lesson in
ecology, geology, glaciology, and evolutionary history (as taught
by the self-guided audio tour) located in Jasper National Park on
the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, Canada. Visitors must depart on
a shuttle from the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre to
get to and from the Glacier Skywalk, a 400m cliff-edge walkway.
The Glacier Skywalk is made of weathering steel, glass, and wood
built into native bedrock that leads to a glass platform made of
three layers of laminated, tempered, and heat-strengthened glass
280m above Sunwapta Valley. A fourth layer of glass 6mm thick
was installed to be easily replaced in case of scratches.
