An inauguration ceremony will be held on June 26 to celebrate the
recent completion of the Panama Canal expansion project.
Opened in 1914, the canal was praised as one of the seven
wonders of the industrial world. The recent expansion allows the
canal to handle container vessels of up to 14,000 TEU. A model of
the Panama Canal is currently on display at the Evergreen
Maritime Museum.
