HOUSTON MUSEUM OF NATURAL SCIENCE
Located along the north side of Hermann Park, you’ll find the
Houston Museum of Natural Science, known for its numerous
special and guest exhibits. It’s one of the most popular museums in
the US, attracting over two million visitors a year. Can’t-miss
exhibits include the Cullen Hall of Gems & Minerals, home to
some of the rarest and most beautiful objects in the mineral
kingdom, among them a stunning blue topaz crystal weighing
more than 2,000 carats and the Ausrox Gold Nugget, an enormous,
nearly 750-pound natural gold nugget. Also be sure to stop by the
Cockrell Butterfly Center, a simulated rainforest habitat housed in
a three-story glass building filled with tropical plants, hundreds of
species of butterflies, and a 50-foot indoor waterfall. The Burke
Baker Planetarium and 394-seat Wortham IMAX Theatre offer

If you start to get the munchies, skip the McDonald’s at the
museum and head one block north to the locally-owned Bodegas
Taco Shop for some authentic casual Tex-Mex tacos, burritos,
salsas, and margaritas.

SPACE CENTER HOUSTON
The official visitor center of the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) center for human spaceflight activities,
Space Center Houston is a must-see destination for any traveler to
Houston. The center includes an amazing assortment of space
artifacts and equipment, including capsules from Mercury 9 and
Gemini 5, an Apollo 17 command module, and a Lunar Rover
vehicle trainer. You can’t miss the on-ground tram tour, which takes
visitors on a tour of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, the historic
Mission Control, and the Rocket Park, featuring Saturn 5 — the
tallest, heaviest, and most powerful rocket to date, and the only one
able to transport human beings beyond low Earth orbit. There’s lots
of activities for guests of all ages, including a climbing wall, play
area, and various educational films about the space race, the daily life
of an astronaut, and what we have learned from the space telescopes
and Mars rovers. You can touch a real moon rock, meet a real
astronaut, or tune in to the audio tour, which features the voices of
