The rocky Promthep Cape is a rugged headland in
southwest Phuket, an island off Thailand’s western coast.
Protruding into the Andaman Sea, Promthep Cape is the
highest point on the island, affording panoramic views of
the southern tip of Phuket all the way to Nai Harn Beach.
The emerald-green water that surrounds Koh Keaw
Pisadan, a small island 1km south of the cape, makes for a
great subject in sunset selfies. Nearby attractions include a
lighthouse built in honor of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s
50th year on the throne. Two kilometers away is Rawai
Beach, a pristine white-sand beach where visitors can eat
fresh seafood from Rawai Seafood Market under the glow
of the famous crimson and gold sunsets.
At the northernmost tip of Japan is Cape Soya, adjacent to
a quaint village with unpretentious guesthouses, trinket
shops, and cozy restaurants. Tourists make it a point to take
pictures next to the monument that declares this spot as the
most northerly. On clear days, visitors can see Sakhalin
Island in Russia (and also catch a boat to Russia). The
spectacular sunsets that hover on the horizon of the Pacific
Ocean create a dazzling full-spectrum light show. No visit
is complete without getting an official certificate, stamped
with your arrival date, at the souvenir shop.
