Holland is famous for a number of things, windmills and wooden clogs among them, but in springtime, nothing is
a stronger representation of the country than tulips. These tall, elegant flowers have been grown in the Netherlands
for hundreds of years, and during the 17th century, trade in the bulbs became so fervent that it was nicknamed
“tulipomania.”
Tulips are now a multimillion-dollar industry, and among the many places you can see them being grown are
the Keukenhof gardens in the city of Lisse. More than 800 varieties and over seven million flowers in total are
being grown there this year, and they’re arranged in a number of carefully planned and tended plots, each of which
will welcome visitors with a dazzling sea of color and unforgettable aroma.
