East London
With its deep hipster roots, East London is
home to some thought-provoking street art.
Street Art London offers graffiti tours of

the elusive
graffiti artist/activist likes has made his mark
here.
Its grandiose early-19th-century architecture is
deceiving. The Saatchi Gallery is synonymous with
contemporary art, particularly installation and pop
art. Established by Charles Saatchi in 1985, the
gallery moved several times before settling into its
current location in the 70,000 sq ft Duke of York’s
Headquarters in Chelsea. The artists featured here
are mostly young and emerging, from the UK and
elsewhere. After a successful run earlier this year, the
all-female exhibition “Champagne Life” is back
October 1-29. Among the 14 women are American
pop artist Julia Wachtel, whose work incorporates
images of Minnie Mouse and Kim Jong-un, and
French-British sculptor Alice Anderson, who uses
copper wires to make gigantic installations.
