STRAIGHT – CHOPSTICKS RACK
Golden Pin Design Award 2015 Design Mark (product
design category), for Straight - Chopsticks Rack
“Straight – Chopsticks Rack is like a mini building on the dining
table, as the structure of the racks is inspired by the mortise-and-tenon
joints commonly used in traditional Chinese architecture. When people
dine out, they will often choose the table by the window because they
want to enjoy the scenery. We think it would be a great thing if the
utensils and tableware on a dining table can also create a beautiful
landscape for the diner.”
EVOLUTION OF THE DESIGN SCENE IN TAIWAN
When KIMU Design dared to enter an international design show in
Japan not long after starting out, they were pioneers. But now new
Taiwanese brands are following their lead by venturing overseas.
Taiwan’s design industry has benefited by collaboration among
designers. “Everyone has a unique perspective and way of thinking,”
said Lin Ting-An of Edison Industry. “So through the process of
exchange we can inspire new ideas, and everyone’s work is a little
different at the end of the conversation.”
Taiwan’s flourishing design industry is also a sign of the island’s
shift away from a manufacturing-based economy. “Right now, Taiwan is
transitioning from ‘Made in Taiwan’ to ‘Designed in Taiwan’,” said Jeff
Yu of Acousdea. “We’re very happy to be part of the generation that will
create the Taiwanese design of the future.”
