Located in Bogoria National Reserve in the Great Rift Valley, Lake
Bogoria is one of three Rift Valley lakes in Kenya. The vast,
remote 32km2 Lake Bogoria is striking with its blue-green algae. A
remarkable feature is the hundreds of thousands of majestic pink
flamingos that strut in the shallows and feed on algae. At times
their numbers can swell to 2 million. Along the western shore are
geysers that erupt every few minutes, the bubbly Loburu hot
springs, and a hot-spring bath for visitors to reap the benefits of the
mineral-rich water. Popular pastimes for tourists include boiling
eggs in the scalding sulfur-rich water and birdwatching.
