Since 1964, Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary has rehabilitated 300 abused, abandoned, and
orphaned orangutans (which mean “person of the forest” in Malay). Visitors walking through
the reserve, an ancient, lush rainforest, may catch a glimpse of an orangutan in the wild.
Guests can also peer through the nursery window at the orangutans, which share an
astonishing 97 percent of the genetic makeup of humans. The best time to maximize the odds
of viewing this endangered species is during feeding time, from 10am to 3 pm.

Feeding time offers the best opportunity to see the red-haired residents of the Sepilok Orangutan
Sanctuary.
