Established in 1908, the 18,500-acre National Bison Range (
bisonrange.fws.gov
) is one of
the oldest wildlife refuges in the US. The range is home to 350 to 500 bison, which may
be spotted via a one-way drive along a gravel road through the range. During the
90-minute to two-hour journey, it is possible to spot from the safety of the car bison, elk,
white-tail deer, mule deer, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, black bears, coyote, ground
squirrels, and 200 species of birds, including eagles, hawks, and bluebirds.
